United Wilson Very Large Chinese Porcelain Jardinière w/ French Gilt Bronze Ormolu Pedestal Stand
Product Details
Weight: 42.00 lbs

We are pleased to present this exceptional United Wilson – attributed Chinese heavy porcelain jardinière, beautifully set into an ornate French gilt-bronze (ormolu) pedestal mount. This impressive piece pairs richly painted Chinese export porcelain with European bronze artistry, creating a striking decorative object intended for grand interiors.

The substantial porcelain body is decorated with continuous figural scenes in polychrome enamels, executed in a manner consistent with late Qing dynasty export wares produced for the Western market. The visible crackling in the glaze is intentional craquelure commonly used in Chinese ceramics, rather than accidental damage. The porcelain’s weight, thickness, and decorative painting quality align with high-quality export porcelain rather than imperial court production.

The attribution to United Wilson is plausible, as the firm was known as a Western distributor that imported and branded Chinese porcelain in the late 19th to early 20th century.

The ornate gilt-bronze mount – European in taste and likely French or Continental, dating to the late 19th or early 20th century – was added to enhance the jardinière’s decorative presence and commercial appeal. The mount features Rococo-inspired scroll handles, shell motifs, and paw feet, with an attractive aged patina that highlights the craftsmanship and period character.

A rare example of Chinese porcelain elevated by French bronze artistry – substantial, authentic, and visually commanding.

Markings:

  • Porcelain: Blue underglaze Chinese apocryphal reign mark (decorative/honorific mark commonly found on late Qing export porcelain
  • Bronze: Stamped with a crowned French atelier mark, consistent with late 19th-century Parisian bronze workshops (identifies a bronzier workshop rather than a retail firm)

Dimensions:

  • Length: 23” (handle to handle)
  • Diameter: 14.5”
  • Height: 12.5” (highest point)
  • Weight: 30 lbs

Condition Report: Very good overall condition. The porcelain is intact and the bronze mount is structurally sound, showing normal surface wear consistent with age. Please review all photos carefully, as they show the exact piece you will receive.
